Bornheimer – Real Madrid successfully claimed an important victory over Sevilla in Week 37 of the 2025/2026 La Liga season at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium. Los Blancos won 1-0 thanks to a decisive goal from Vinicius Junior, who once again proved his importance for the Spanish giants. Although Real Madrid controlled possession for most of the game, Sevilla still managed to create several dangerous opportunities and pushed the visitors until the final minutes. The match also featured dramatic moments, including a disallowed goal from Kylian Mbappe and several crucial saves from Thibaut Courtois. With this victory, Real Madrid strengthened their position in second place in the La Liga standings while Sevilla remained stuck in the middle of the table.

Sevilla Started the Match with Aggressive Pressure

Sevilla began the game with high intensity and immediately tried to surprise Real Madrid with aggressive pressing. The home side pushed forward early and looked confident in front of their supporters at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Oso became one of Sevilla’s most active players during the opening minutes. He attempted a long-range shot in the second minute, but the effort flew over the crossbar. Sevilla continued creating pressure through quick attacks and dangerous movement around Madrid’s penalty area. Dean Huijsen had to clear an important cross for a corner while Thibaut Courtois was forced into action several times early in the match.

Courtois Made Important Saves for Real Madrid

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois played a major role during Sevilla’s strong opening period. The Belgian shot-stopper denied a dangerous strike from Oso after previously dealing comfortably with an effort from Neal Maupay. Courtois remained calm under pressure and helped Madrid survive Sevilla’s early attacking momentum. His positioning and reflexes once again showed why he remains one of the best goalkeepers in world football. Without his important saves, Sevilla could have taken an early lead and changed the direction of the match completely.

Vinicius Junior Broke the Deadlock in the First Half

Real Madrid finally found the breakthrough in the 15th minute through Vinicius Junior. The move started with excellent control from Kylian Mbappe, whose chest pass created space inside the penalty area. Vinicius reacted quickly and fired a low shot into the bottom-right corner of the goal. The Brazilian winger celebrated passionately as Madrid took a crucial lead away from home. The goal also highlighted the growing chemistry between Vinicius and Mbappe in Real Madrid’s attack. After scoring, Los Blancos looked more comfortable and began controlling the tempo of the game with longer periods of possession.

Real Madrid Controlled Possession After Taking the Lead

Following Vinicius Junior’s goal, Real Madrid gradually dominated possession and slowed the pace of the match. Sevilla still tried to press aggressively, but Madrid managed the ball with greater composure and accuracy. Midfield players like Jude Bellingham and Aurelien Tchouameni helped control the rhythm while Dani Carvajal and Fran Garcia supported attacks from the flanks. Kylian Mbappe also came close to scoring before halftime, but his effort from the left side of the box missed the target by a narrow margin. Despite Sevilla’s defensive discipline, Madrid looked more organized and confident after taking the lead.

Sevilla Tried to Respond in the Second Half

Sevilla entered the second half with determination and continued searching for an equalizer. However, Real Madrid immediately took control of possession once the game restarted. Los Blancos built attacks patiently while forcing Sevilla to spend long periods defending inside their own half. In the 50th minute, a dangerous combination between Mbappe and Tchouameni nearly produced a second goal for Madrid. Tchouameni’s shot deflected off a defender before going wide of the post. Sevilla still showed fighting spirit and remained dangerous during quick counterattacks whenever opportunities appeared.

Antonio Rudiger Delivered a Crucial Defensive Moment

One of the most important defensive moments arrived in the 59th minute when Oso nearly found himself in a perfect scoring position inside the box. Antonio Rudiger reacted brilliantly and intercepted the ball just before the Sevilla player could shoot. The German defender once again showed his leadership and defensive awareness during a difficult moment for Real Madrid. Rudiger’s intervention prevented Sevilla from creating a huge opportunity and helped maintain Madrid’s narrow advantage. His performance throughout the match demonstrated why he remains a key figure in Madrid’s defensive line.

VAR Denied Mbappe a Goal Late in the Match

Real Madrid thought they had secured the game completely in the 74th minute when Kylian Mbappe scored from close range. However, the celebration ended quickly after VAR reviewed the play and ruled the French striker offside. The decision disappointed Madrid supporters because the move initially looked perfectly timed. Despite the disallowed goal, Mbappe still delivered an energetic performance and constantly threatened Sevilla’s defense with his pace and movement. The VAR decision also added extra drama during the closing stages of the match as Sevilla continued pushing for an equalizer.

Courtois Became the Hero Again in Injury Time

Sevilla nearly stole a late equalizer during injury time when Kike unleashed a powerful shot toward goal. Once again, Thibaut Courtois produced an outstanding save to protect Real Madrid’s lead. The Belgian goalkeeper reacted quickly and denied Sevilla with a world-class stop that secured all three points for Los Blancos. His performance throughout the match proved decisive, especially during moments when Sevilla increased pressure near the end. Courtois’ heroics ensured Real Madrid left Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan with an important victory in their final away game of the season.

Real Madrid Strengthened Their Position in La Liga

The 1-0 victory helped Real Madrid strengthen their hold on second place in the La Liga standings with 83 points. Although they no longer controlled the title race, Los Blancos continued showing professionalism and consistency during the closing weeks of the season. Meanwhile, Sevilla remained in 13th place with 43 points after 37 matches. The result also highlighted Real Madrid’s ability to grind out difficult wins even when facing strong resistance away from home. Vinicius Junior’s decisive goal and Courtois’ crucial saves ultimately became the difference in a tense and competitive La Liga encounter.

Bornheimer – An emotional clash awaits Kylian Mbappé at the Santiago Bernabéu as he faces his former club, AS Monaco, the team that played a pivotal role in his rise to stardom. The Champions League tie is scheduled to kick off on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in the early hours (WIB). For Mbappé, this is not just a typical reunion.

A Critical Mission for Real Madrid

The stakes are high for Real Madrid as they aim to secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League. With the competition heating up, Los Blancos need a win to guarantee their automatic qualification for the next round. For Mbappé, it’s not just a sentimental encounter—it’s a crucial match for his current club’s aspirations.

While he has fond memories of his time at Monaco, Mbappé is keen on maintaining his professionalism. He stressed the need for Real Madrid to go all out from the first whistle.

Pressing from the First Minute

Mbappé is adamant that Madrid should waste no time and press Monaco relentlessly. His message to his teammates is clear: three points at home are essential to secure a place in the Champions League quarterfinals, avoiding the fatigue-inducing playoff rounds.

Also Read : Dozens Killed, Many More Injured in High-Speed Train Crash in Spain

“We must play aggressively from the start, chase them down, and we want to win the match to secure a place in the top eight,” Mbappé said firmly.

He also placed his trust in the magic of Santiago Bernabéu, a stadium that has often proven to be a decisive factor on European nights.

“This is a very important match against a tough opponent, and we’re playing at home, at the Bernabéu. Everyone knows that Champions League nights at the Bernabéu are an advantage for us,” he added.

Caution Against Monaco’s European DNA

Despite being the favorites, Mbappé refuses to underestimate Monaco. He acknowledges that while Monaco’s domestic form has been inconsistent, the Champions League is a different stage altogether. Monaco has a strong European pedigree and the mentality to challenge any top team.

“Monaco may not be in their best form right now, but in Europe, they know how to defend and compete as a top team,” Mbappé analyzed.

Respect for His Former Club

Beyond the ambition to defeat Monaco, Mbappé holds a deep respect for his former team. He recognizes that he wouldn’t be where he is today without the development he received at Monaco. His time at the Ligue 1 club was a crucial period that laid the foundation for his dreams.

“It was incredible. I was able to fulfill many of my dreams there. I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for Monaco,” Mbappé said emotionally.

The striker expressed his gratitude for the opportunities Monaco gave him, making it clear that the club played an instrumental role in his growth as a professional.

“Honestly, it was a stroke of luck for me to be at that club because they gave me so much to help me reach my dream of becoming a professional player, and I will never forget it,” he added.

A Message of Sympathy for Córdoba

Before diving into tactics and the upcoming reunion, Mbappé also took a moment to show his humanity. He sent heartfelt condolences for the tragic accident in Córdoba, acknowledging that there are things in life far more significant than football.

“I want to express my condolences to all the victims of the accident in Córdoba. I saw what happened,” Mbappé said solemnly.

“It’s important to think of all the families, fathers, mothers, and siblings who lost loved ones. We are thinking of them, and remember, there are some things that are far more important than football,” he concluded.

As the match approaches, the focus will be on the game, but Mbappé’s thoughtful words and professionalism remind everyone that football, while a passion, is not everything.
